Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Makes National News

Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra recently made national news in an article published in the January-February issue of SYMPHONY Magazine, the bi-monthly publication of the American Symphony Orchestra League.

Writer Peter Panepento was researching an article entitled, "Who We Are,” focusing on orchestras that have re-branded over the past year. LSO’s innovative name change, new logo, long-range strategic planning, free community concert, and significant increase in subscription sales caught his attention. As a result, LSO is one of a few orchestras across the nation profiled in the article.

“This article is so timely because it highlights a truth that orchestras across the country are facing: the need to communicate a consistent message that connects with our home community. As an orchestra, we need to be interwoven into the fabric of the entire community, instead of focusing on being an elite club. It’s very exciting to see that other orchestras are inspired by the work that we have done here over the past two years,” said Barbara Zach, LSO executive director.

Included in the article is a photograph of LSO at the free community concert on July 4 and an image and description of LSO’s new logo, which was designed by Amy Ebbeka of Ebbeka Design. The complete article is available on the LSO Web site. Founded in 1927, Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra has a mission to enrich, educate and entertain current and potential audiences through the performance and advancement of symphonic music.

The American Symphony Orchestra League provides leadership and service to American orchestras while communicating to the public the value and importance of orchestras and the music they perform. Please visit us at our new location at 2748 South Street! Our new location is easier to find, which is due in part to the large sign right on South Street, and a large sign above the office itself. When you add this to the convenient location, comfortable neighborhood, and friendly staff, visiting Ebbeka Design is a pleasant experience. Ebbeka Designs Graphics for Museum Exhibit

Bizarre Beasts - Past and Present, a travelling museum exhibit created by nationally renoun sculptor, Gary Staab, opened to rave reviews on June 5th at the Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History in Hastings, Nebraska. All the graphics included in the exhibit - banners, displays, panels - were created by Ebbeka Design in tandem with friend and colleague, Ingrid Sepahpur.

"The project was a huge undertaking but was very exciting and fun to work on. Gary's prehistoric sculptures are amazing and I wanted the graphics to enhance the sculptural pieces without overwhelming the viewer," Amy commented.

The project will be on display in Hastings until August 20th, 2006. From there, it will travel to the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC. For more information about Bizarre Beasts - Past and Present, visit the Hastings Museum at www.hastingsmuseum.org or Staab Studios at www.staabstudios.com.

Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Presents New Logo

Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra has partnered with Amy Ebbeka of Ebbeka Design to create a new logo in conjunction with the announcement of its upcoming 80th season in 2006-07.

The logo, designed to be classic, inviting and ageless, features the script monogram “LSO” in purple with a musical staff in the background. Following the logo is the text, “Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, Edward Polochick, Music Director.” The new logo continues the transformation of the orchestra, which last year changed its name from The Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, to Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, to reflect its commitment to serving the community.

“I wanted to create an icon that would blend rich tradition with modern innovation. I felt the logo should be timeless in nature and inviting to all. Seeing the symphony is a transforming experience and I wanted the logo to depict that feeling,” according to Amy Ebbeka, of Ebbeka Design.

“We believe that Amy Ebbeka has a true sense of the mission of Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, where we’ve been and where we’re going. The logo, in addition to our branding strategy, will help us strengthen our position as a vital arts organization and a community asset,” according to Barbara Zach, LSO executive director.

“LSO feels extremely fortunate to be working with Ebbeka Design, as we move together in one direction to meet our future goals, which is to expand our audience and strengthen our organization,” Zach said.
